The programmes at the Somaiya School of Civilisation Studies are inherently interdisciplinary. They integrate perspectives and methodologies from history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, international relations, literature, law, and technology. This holistic approach ensures a well-rounded education that equips students with the analytical tools needed to understand complex cultural phenomena and their implications for the modern world.
The main thrust of the Somaiya School of Civilisation Studies is research. We will be offering doctoral programmes in History and English & Comparative Literature aimed at fostering original research that contributes to a broader understanding of human civilisations.
Students enrolled for Ph.D. programme will undergo coursework as per the guidelines of Somaiya Vidyavihar University and the University Grants Commission. To ensure the research journey of the Ph.D. scholar is fair to the researcher and that qualitative work is being pursued, a Doctoral Advisory Committee will be formed as a supervisory authority. The Doctoral Advisory Committee will comprise of the following members - Director of the School, Research Guide, One Faculty Member from the School or SVU as nominated by the Director, Ph.D. Coordinator of the School and an external subject expert. The Committee will monitor the progress of the research scholar periodically.
