Prof. Hemangi Bhagwat
Incharge Dean of the the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Somaiya Vidyavihar University and Professor of Languages & Literature at the Somaiya School of Civilisation Studies.
"The study of civilisation lies at the heart of understanding humanity’s past, navigating its present, and imagining its future. In an era marked by rapid globalisation, climate change, technological disruption, and socio-political transformation, there is an urgent need to conceptualise civilisation beyond Eurocentric and linear narratives. This field fosters historical consciousness, ethical reasoning, and global citizenship, making it indispensable in the 21st century. This programme is designed to transform the way students think, question, and engage with the world. By integrating knowledge across disciplines and fostering intellectual curiosity, it enables learners to develop a nuanced understanding of human societies and their evolving challenges. The programme gives a transformative learning experience to the Students, who graduate not only with knowledge, but with the capacity to apply it thoughtfully, ethically, and creatively in a rapidly changing global landscape."
Hemangi Bhagwat is the Incharge Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Somaiya Vidyavihar University and Professor of Languages & Literature at the Somaiya School of Civilisation Studies. With over 35 years of teaching experience, she has contributed extensively to higher education through research, academic leadership, and institutional development.
A recognized Ph.D. guide in English Literature at the University of Mumbai, she has supervised several doctoral scholars, authored books and research papers, and presented at national and international conferences. She has also served as a NAAC National Assessor and has actively contributed to academic audits, curriculum development, and communication skills training for academic and corporate institutions.
