Introduction

Starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, this programme offers an in-depth exploration of various disciplines from civilisational and critical perspectives, preparing students for advanced academic and professional careers.

Teaching pedagogy

All teaching will be student centred aimed at fostering inquiry and critical thinking. Students will be encouraged to take charge of their own learning by closely reading the introduced texts under the mentorship of the faculty. Participating in seminars and expert lectures on various topics related to the field of humanities and social sciences would be integral to the learning process.

Career Opportunities

Upon the successful completion of the programme, a student can choose to opt for (not limited to) the following career paths like academic research and teaching, foreign embassies and consulates, civil services, publishing, script writing, cultural institutions and musea, translation bureaus and interpretation, advertising agencies, media houses, non-governmental organizations and civil societies, tourism and others.

Programme Outcomes

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of Liberal Arts including humanities, social sciences, performing arts and fine arts, and promote a research based learning environment.

  • Cultivate effective communication skills including writing, speaking and presentation to express ideas in a coherent and intelligible manner.

  • Critically evaluate the historical, social and cultural contexts that shape social issues and problems.

  • Critically examine social and literary theories, criticism and concepts including their strengths, limitations and applications.

  • Examine how power dynamics shape individual and collective experiences including issues of inequality, justice and human rights.

  • Analyze and apply various literary theories and critical approaches to literary texts.

  • Provide students with a deeper understanding of literary genres.

  • Analyze literary texts critically and creatively with its cultural and historical context.

  • Motivate students to think and research beyond the discipline based frontiers to examine cultures, civilizations, social structures and political systems from perspectives of the Global South.

  • Encourage learners to explore multifarious fields of inquiry and prepare them for a wide range of careers in academia, journalism, research, civil services, publishing, consultancy, think tanks, and beyond.

Semester 01
Common:

The first semester is devoted exclusively to the close reading of texts. At the start of the semester, students will be required to choose the texts they wish to read from a corpus of about fifty fundamental works drawn from the various disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. This process will be facilitated by the faculty who will individually mentor each student.

For the evaluation, students will be encouraged to respond creatively and critically to their chosen texts. In addition to the close reading of and response to texts, students will be encouraged to participate in all the seminars of the School.
