Introduction

A four-year undergraduate programme in Liberal Arts offered by the Somaiya School of Civilisation Studies.

The learner can choose a Major from the six options offered.

  • Anthropology

  • Literature

  • History

  • Philosophy

  • Areas Studies/Asian Studies

  • Political Science

Teaching pedagogy

All teaching will be student centred aimed at fostering inquiry and critical thinking. Students will be encouraged to take charge of their own learning by closely reading the introduced texts under the mentorship of the faculty. Participating in seminars and expert lectures on various topics related to the field of humanities and social sciences would be integral to the learning process.

Career Opportunities

Upon the successful completion of the programme, a student can choose to opt for (not limited to) the following career paths like academic research and teaching, foreign embassies and consulates, civil services, publishing, script writing, cultural institutions and musea, translation bureaus and interpretation, advertising agencies, media houses, non-governmental organizations and civil societies, tourism and others.

  • Encourage learners to integrate knowledge from different academic fields in order to develop well rounded, research based perspectives on complex global issues.

  • Develop an understanding of cultures, political systems and social structures of different regions thereby enabling the learners to engage thoughtfully with national, global and cross-cultural issues.

Students have to choose a minimum of 3 out to the 7 courses offered in each semester (Each Course is of 4 Credits)

Students have a choice of picking any elective offered by the Somaiya School of Civilization Studies or other institutions/ schools of Somaiya Vidyavihar Campus for their remaining credit requirements (Minor will be considered if a student gains 20 credits in the BA Programme in a particular discipline).
